Oleg Rodin: Officials are trying to intimidate residents of Kuznechikha who are opposed to the construction of McDonald’s in the green zone

On 13 June, local residents met in front of House No 19 Rokossovsky street with a correspondent of the Vesti Privolzhye (Vesti Volga Region) newspaper so that to tell about the construction of a McDonald’s restaurant under the windows of their houses. After the correspondent left, police officers began to surround residents and establish their identities. The police considered what was happening was a rally requiring a special permission. As a result, police wrote down the data of two women.
“Today, the authorities tried to intimidate citizens and suppress the indignation of the residents of Kuznechikha regarding the construction of a McDonald’s restaurant and elimination of a green zone. Bit this only outraged the residents even more, and they are not going to stop their struggle. Sergei Kolotov, acting the head of the Sovetsky District, was at the site and assured all that the construction was taking place within the framework of the law. But so far no one can answer the question of why the green zone is being destroyed, while there is no expert assessment of the green zone on the web-site of the Legislative Assembly. If it was not published, then permission to cut 121 trees and shrubs is unlawful,” Oleg Rodin, Chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Yabloko, commented on the situation.
On 11 June, construction of a McDonald’s restaurant began near 19n Rokossovsky street, it is planned to cut down 121 trees and shrubs. Construction is carried out by the OOO Food Business company.
