North Ossetia YABLOKO Youth supports army based on contract principles

Alan Alikov, an activist of North Ossetia YABLOKO Youth, conducted a one-person picket is support of the army based on contract principles. The picket took place in Vladikavkaz.
“Only a professional contract based army can defend a county from the threats of the XXI century. Moreover, the conscription system in Russia is corrupted,” Alan Alikov said.
For years YABLOKO Youth have been calling for abolishion of conscription and transfer to a professional army based on contract principles.
YABLOKO Youth’s actions in support of a contract-based army also took place in Novosibirsk (the Novosibirsk Region), Stavropol (the Stavropol Territory), Moscow and Yeysk (the Krasnodar Territory).
Conscription in Russia is a 12-month draft, mandatory for all male citizens age 18–27, with a number of exceptions.
