Mitrokhin: If democracy doesn’t win, Russia will lose

On August 22, the Russian flag day, a rally in memory to the events of the coup of 1991 took place. YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin and member of YABLOKO Policial Committee Victor Sheinis participated in the action. The demonstration started from the White House [parliament building] and ended by the monument to the democracy defenders where the rally began. The participants commemorated the memeory of those who died during the events of 1991 with a minute of silence.
Sergei Mitrokhin said that the year before a lot more people participated in the memorial action.
“Development of democracy in such a country as Russia is specifically a hard and long-term action and today we are doing it, but not everyone managed to carry on. I’m sure it is temporary. We are here today not only to defend democracy but to save our country. If democracy doesn’t win, Russia will lose”, commented YABLOKO leader.
After the rally the participants laid flowers to the monument to democracy defenders.
