Meeting of women’s movement activists took place at YABLOKO office
Press release, 31.10.2014
The initiative group For feminism and YABLOKO Gender faction conducted a round table on October 31.
Deputy Chair of YABLOKO Gender faction Olga Radayeva spoke about her experience in participation in the Moscow City Duma elections. She mentioned that she had been the only woman-candidate in her electoral district and was the only one who had raised social issues. “My campaign has proved that gender diversity do influence the voters’ preferences. This way, women are more concerned with the problems of education, medicine and children’s rights protection. Moreover, women are more active voters”, she said.
Natalya Bitten, a journalist and founder of the For feminism initiative group, told the participants of the round table about her experience in participation in the discussions on women’s rights protection and feminism.
She emphasized that a large number of men still consider that feminism was an attempt to abuse men’s right, not to protect women’s.
The participants of the discussion shared their impressions of participation in public discussions and public’s reaction to the gender-inclusive speeches.
