Lev Shlosberg nominated for Boris Nemtsov Prize

On 21 May, the Board of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation will make the final decision on who will be awarded the Boris Nemtsov Prize for Courage. The winner will be announced at the awarding ceremony which will take place in Bonn on 12 June.
Activist [and political prisoner] Ildar Dadin, Chair of the Pskov branch of YABLOKO Lev Shlosberg, writer Victor Shenderovich, founder of the Foundation for Fighting Corruption Alexei Navalny and Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko are among the five nominees. It was reported on the website of Novaya Gazeta where the voting had taken place on Friday, 13 May.
“A large number of people disapproved of the voting principle on ethical grounds. But being courageous does not mean only staying in prison, it is a broader thing,” Zhanna Nemtsova said. She also explained that “the prize is awarded for exceptional courage in defending democratic values in Russia”. The money equivalent of the prize is 10 thousand Euro.
The Board of the Boris Nemtsov Foundation will decide who will be awarded the Prize during their first meeting on 21 May. The winner will be announced at the awarding ceremony which will take place in Bonn on 12 June, the National Day of the Russian Federation. All the nominees or their representatives will be invited to the event.
The Boris Nemtsov Prize will be awarded for the first time.
