Lev Shlosberg awarded Moscow Helsinki Group prize

Chair of the pskov branch of YABLOKO, deputy of the Pskov region Legislative Assembly and the Editor-in-Chief of the Pskov Gubernia newspaper Lev Shlosberg was awarded the Moscow Helsinki Group prize in the nomination “For courage in protecting human rights”.
The Moscow Helsinki Group award is held annually and dated to the Human Rights Day, December 10.
Lev Shlosberg was the first to publish the information on the closed funeral of the Pskov paratroopers who had died under unknown circumstances. In his article, Shlosberg express an opinion that the had been killed in Ukraine. After the publication of the article, Lev Shlosberg was attacked by unknown people.
Several journalists who also tried to investigate the circumstances of the paratroopers’ death have also been attacked. In August Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of Vladimir Putin, noted that the information needed to be checked. In September Lev Shlosberg sent a deputy’s appeal to Russia’s Military Prosecutor’s General demanding to investigate the sircumstances of the paratroopers’ death. He received the answer in Noverber, the letter said that the circumstances of their death were identified but were not to be revealed since they were a state secret.
