Grigory Yavlinsky: “The merger of business and the government is the main vice of the system”
Grigory Yavlinsky at the Stolypin Forum about why Russia builds such shopping malls that suddenly burn
Press Release, 30.03.2018
Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky spoke at the Stolypin Forum at Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO), on 29 March, 2018. In his speech, Yavlinsky spoke about why not a single, even the best quality and well-concieved economic strategies work in the modern Russian system, and what the merger of the business and the government brings about.
There are so many talented people in Russia who can write economic programmes. But we do not have a state that could implement such strategies. This system does not perceive any external strategies, it develops according to its own internal laws. That is why not a single businessman or owner can be sure that his business, his property will not be taken away from him tomorrow, that his investments will not become meaningless. That is why we build such shopping malls that suddenly burn. Because their owners do not think about the perspective, they only think about how to make quick money, while their property is not taken away.
