Grigory Yavlinsky on the Russian Guard
Blog post by Grigory Yavlinsky, 06.10.2016
President began preparing for the new political season with the decree on granting special powers of the National Guard, already renamed into the Russian Guard. This department will get about 100 proxies, including maintenance of the wartime regime, planning joint activities with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, participation in the state military order, development of measures for provision of security of civil aviation…
In addition the Russian Guard will engage in mandatory (!) fingerprinting of Russian citizens and will participate in “informational confrontation” (?).
It has become more obvious that Putin’s Guard is a kind of gendarmerie of the era of [Tsar] Nicholas I, the instrument of total “paternal” control of the state over its citizens.
