Gone in the shadow of medals in Sochi
Statement by Trine Skei Grande, President of the Venstre party, Norway, 20.02.2014
Prime Minister in Norway, Mrs Erna Solberg, brought up the situation of human rights activists when she met with Prime Ministers Medvedev during his stay in the Olympic city of Sochi last week.
– It is good thing that Solberg vows human rights issues in the contact between Norway and Russia – even if it should be obvious, says Trine Skei Grande, leader of Venstre(the liberal party of Norway).
One of those arrested in Olympic city is Yevgeny Vitishko, environmentalist from the organization Environmental Watch on North Caucasus (EWNC) and member of Venstres sister party in Russia, was yesterday sent from prison in Tuapse without getting travel a short trip home, as promised.
– The arrest of Vitishko happened against the background of a trifle, resulted in three years’ imprisonment and now nobody can answer where he is. This is an example of the Russian authorities remove the people they experience are questioning the government’s actions, saying Skei Grande.
Trine Skei Grande will also address the Norwegian Olympic Committee to demand Mr Vitishkos freedom.
