Press release, 12.01.2017
On January 11, Deputy Chair of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO, professor of Bremen University Galina Mikhaleva gave a lecture on Russia-EU relations. The lecture was held by the discussion club of Moscow Yabloko Youth.
Galina Mikhaleva told about three stages of development of relations between Russian and the European Union: 1) a romantic period of ideas about common values, 2) transition to the policy of common interests, 3) the period of “Cold War” 2.0
She stressed that the strategies of the EU and Russia were carried out according to the principle of “false mirrors”. The current situation led the relations into a deadlock of confrontation and distrust.
After the lecture the participants of the discussion spoke about the party’s stance on Russian-EU relations and the possible ways out of the deadlock. They came to the conclusion that, in the first place, a lot depends on the change of the political regime in Russia.
YABLOKO activists from other cities of Russia participated in the discussion via a webinar.
