Federal Council of the YABLOKO party:Russia’s goal is to become a true member of the European community

In twenty years Russia must turn into a true member of the European community. This is the goal set for Russia by YABLOKO’s Federal Council which is taking place in Moscow this weekend. To reach this goal YABLOKO is going to create on its basis an instrument allowing to achieve this: a mass-scale politically responsible and financially transparent democratic opposition.
YABLOKO’s founder Grigory Yavlinsky submitted to the Federal Council a statement where he formulated his vision of Russia’s development prospects and YABLOKO’s tasks in facilitating Russia’s joining the European way of development.
“The main problem of the country is the lack of clearly formulated long-term realistic goal for Russia’s development in the 21st century which would be supported by most of the nation and would have good historic prospects,” runs the statement adopted by the Federal Council.
According to YABLOKO, that such a goal should be Russia’s return to the European way of development and joining the European community so that “provide dignified life to the present and further generations of Russia’s citizens and a decent place for Russia in the modern world.”
This task is “ambitions but it can be implemented,” runs the statement.
YABLOKO will spare no effort so that to formulate and implement Russia’s development within the European vector. YABLOKO is taking up to form the nucleus of the democratic opposition, which must be programme, moral and personal alternative to the present system of power.
The Federal Council of YABLOKO is the representative body of the party. It comprises YABLOKO’s federal leaders, heads of regional branches as well as one one representative per a regional organisation and a party faction elected at regional conferences.
