Evgenia Sukhorukova, Karelian YABLOKO team member, faces imprisonment

Evgenia Sukhorukova is Vice Mayor of Petrozavodsk, the capital of the Republic of Karelia, and member of the Karelian YABLOKO team.
One day she refused to work for Alexander Khudilainen, Governor of Karelia. After that she received the first threats on possible criminal prosecution. A criminal case against Sukhorukova emerged as soon as she was appointed Vice Mayor of Petorozavodsk. The Mayor of the city (Galina Shirshina) was elected with YABLOKO’s support.
Now Evgenia Sukhorukova is facing three years in a penal colony and her minor child will go to the relatives who will become his guardians.
A trial on her case is coming to an end. On 6 October the court will hear Public Prosecutor’s speech after which the court will appoint the date for Sukhorukova final word.
