MEPs supported Yabloko’s statement
22.01.2018
The statement of the Yabloko party about inadmissibility of persecution of the Memorial human rights group in the North Caucasus was supported by members of the European Parliament.
Yabloko is member of the key international political liberal organisations. The party participates in the development of liberals’ common stance on the most important issues of the world politics and facilitates dissemination of objective information about Russia. Since 1998, Yabloko has been member party of Liberal International, a world organisation of liberals and liberal parties. Since 2006, Yabloko has been member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) party, which unites European liberal parties. Yabloko also cooperates with the liberals’ groups in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and in the European Parliament.
Below is the statement of members of the European Parliament:
“As Members of the European Parliament, we strongly deplore the arson attack on Ingushetia ́s regional office of Memorial, which is one of Russia’s oldest and most prominent human rights organisations.
The headquarters of Memorial were set on fire on 17 January, 2018. It is believed that this has followed the arrest of human rights activist Oyub Titiev, the head of Memorial ́s Chechen operations, who was arrested over trumped up charges for supposed narcotics offences a week before. We believe that this arson attack is politically motivated with a goal to intimidate anyone speaking up for human rights violations in the Russian Federation. We call for Mr Titiev ́s urgent release and demand the Russian government to put an end to the human rights violations against its citizens.
