Central Election Commission restores YABLOKO’s list of candidates in Novgorod Region

Today the Central Election Commission has settled YABLOKO’s claim against the Election Commission of the Novgorod Region, which denied registration of the party list of candidates in Novgorod Region parliamentary election.

The Central Election Commission members came to the conclusion that there was no reason to believe that the list of candidates for the Novgorod Region Parliament was processed in contravention of the law.
“Since the other grounds for denial of registration of the list of candidates has not been established, the disputed decision is unlawful and subject to cancellation,” runs the regulation of the Central Election Commission.
Moreover, the Central Election Commission passed a no-confidence motion against head of the Election Commission of the Novgorod Region Boris Alexeyev and proposed that he should retire.
Previously YABLOKO’s candidates for deputies of the Novgorod Region Duma conducted protest actions against the refusal of the Regional Election Commission to register the party’s list of candidates. Protests took place outside the Government of the Novgorod Region.
