Bankruptcy of Lenenergo may be followed by other St.Petersburg energy companies
Financial problems of the Lenenergo energy company are caused by inefficiency of the investment programme, as well as lack of the balance for heat and electricity in the St.Petersburg Heating Schemes up to Period 2030. Such a statement was made today by Grigory Yavlinsky head of the YABLOKO faction in the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg. Yavlinsky is certain that if St.Petersburg authorities do not take measures to make energy spending more efficient and do not change the heating schemes, then bankruptcy of other large energy companies functioning in the city, primarily in the field of heating, will be inevitable.
Many years of misguided policies conducted by the city authorities led to a decrease in the efficiency of the city CHP plants generating heat and electricity. Consequently, the cost of generated energy was too high. However, the supplying the organisations, such as Lenenergo, were forced to purchase energy at a given price. This was one of the reasons for the company’s bankruptcy. The second reason was the low efficiency of investments into Lenenergo.
Meanwhile, the efficiency of the St. Petersburg energy sector should be reflected in the Heating Scheme. However, this purpose it is not actually stated there. St. Petersburg authorities and the Energy Ministry do not implement this work either.
If measures for improvement of the scheme are not taken in the short period, this will inevitably lead to bankruptcy of other companies operating on the heat and electricity market, Yavlinsky noted.
