On Wednesday, March 5, awarding ceremony Sexist of the Year 2013 will be held in YABLOKO’s office, Moscow. The event will be held with support of YABLOKO’s Gender Faction.

The event is organized by the initiative group For Feminism.

The organizer of the award held since 2010 the initiative group For Feminism. The group was created in Moscow for promotion of feminism and consolidation of women activists from the movements protecting women’s rights.

The “winners” will be determined by online voting.

The purpose of the award Sexist of the Year is to draw public attention to the problem of sexism and initiate a special law guaranteeing eradication of hate speech against women in the media.

The winners will be selected in the following categories: “Sexist of the Year”, “Sexism in Advertising”, “Sexism in Mass Media”, “Women Making Anti-Women Statements”, and “Anti-Women Policies”.

Last year’s winners were businessman and public person German Sterligov for hate speech against women and for his fight against the law on gender equality and Orthodox psychologist Irina Medvedeva who spoke against adoption of the law against domestic violence on the grounds that it could be allegedly used for prosecution of “innocent” defendants “provoked” by their victims .

The ceremony will be held in YABLOKO’s office (Pyatnitskaya 31/2 building 2, 4th floor) on March 5 at 17:00.
