A rally against anti-terrorist legislation took place in Kurgan
Press release, 27.07.2016
On July 26, a rally in support of the Russian Constitution and against Yarovaya’s package – the anti-terrorist legislation developed by the State Duma deputies Irina Yarovaya and Victor Ozerov took place in Kurgan, Russia’s Ural Mountains. Dmitry Feldsherov, a YABLOKO’s parliamentary candidate in a single-mandate constituency, was one of the organisers of the protest action.
“The main aim of the action is to express our protest against the violation of the Constitution since the adopted anti-terrorist legislation contains a large number of anticonstituional, expensive and just silly norms,” Dmitry Feldsherov said, opening the meeting.
“One of our requirements is to defend the Constitution and protect the secrecy of correspondence and private life. If all our data will be stored somewhere it means that someone may learn this information, strangers will have access to one’s correspondence and telephone talks. This is terrible, wrong and devastating for the state,” Feldsherov noted.
The citizens of Kurgan disapprove of the fact that the law increases the number of crimes with which children aged between 14 and 17 can be charged.
Blogger Ilya Vinshtain claims that the authorities propose a total surveillance under the pretense of security.
The protest actions against Yarovaya’s law also took place in St.Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg.
