Deputies of YABLOKO faction in St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly addressed President with request to annul decree on destruction of sanctioned food products

Deputies of St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly Boris Vishnevsky and Alexander Kobrinsky forwarded a letter to President Putin with the request to annul the decree on the destruction of sunctioned food products.
The deputies claim that it is unacceptable to destroy food in the country where over 15 percent of the citizens are below the poverty line.
As an alternative the deputies suggest sending the food products to social institutions – orphanages, care homes and hospitals.
“It is the demand of the people who voted for me to do everything possible to stop this madness [the destruction of food products],” claim Alexander Kobrinsky.
President Vladimir Putin signed the decree ordering the destruction of food which breaches sanctions on July 29. The law came into force officially on August 6. The products must be destroyed in front of witnesses, and the act should be captured on video, to preclude corruption.
