YABLOKO lit up 1,418 candles in memory of the Second World War
Press Release, June 22, 2013
YABLOKO’s leaders, party activists and Moscow citizens took part in a memory action “1,418 candles per every day of the war” commemorating the victims of the Second World War. The action was held in Moscow at night from June 21 to June 22 (the day the USSR was attacked by Hitler’s troops).
The action “1,418 candles per every day of the war” has become traditional for the YABLOKO party and has been held in Moscow for several years already.
This year YABLOKO activists faced difficulty when they were lighting the candles because of a strong wind. But Alexander Gnezdilov, YABLOKO Bureau member, proposed not to pay attention at bad weather. In his speech Gnezdilov said that “our ancestors had been facing even more troubles when they were fighting for the life and freedom of further generations.”
The participants of the memory action announced a minute of silence.
