A Just Russia seeks to remove Yabloko’s State Duma candidate — chief rival to Rodina party’s leader and candidate — from the elections

On Friday, 28 August, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Bashkortostan will hear a claim seeking to cancel the registration of Yabloko candidate Alexei Akimenko for the State Duma elections. Akimenko is standing in Neftekamsk single-mandate constituency No. 6.
Standing in the same constituency is incumbent State Duma deputy and Rodina party leader Alexei Zhuravlev. It was, in fact, on a claim brought by Rodina that a court earlier cancelled the registration of Yabloko’s list for the State Duma elections.
The claim against Akimenko was filed by another of his rivals in the constituency — Konstantin Shagimuratov, a member of “A Just Russia — For Truth” party, who previously headed the party’s branch in Bashkortostan.
According to the claim, Shagimuratov is seeking to have Alexei Akimenko’s registration cancelled on the grounds that the Yabloko member allegedly administers social media communities that mention other social networks banned in Russia.
The hearing at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Bashkortostan will take place on 28 August at 14:30 local time (12:30 Moscow time) and will be open to the public.
