Moscow Mayor approved of YABLOKO’s demand to provide all polling stations with touchscreen voting machines at Moscow City Duma elections
Press Release, 04.04.2014
According to the Vedomosti newspaper, Moscow Mayor’s Office requested the Central Electoral Commission for 3000 touchscreen voting machines to provide transparency and publicity at Moscow City Duma elections which will take place in September 2014.
A member of Moscow City Election Commission from YABLOKO Mikhail Petrov insisted on this measure but other members of the commission tried to persuade him it was impossible due to the shortage of machines.
YABLOKO insists on providing the touchscreen voting machines as they secure legitimate counting of votes: a pile of bulletins can’t be throw in and manipulations are impossible when sorting the bulletins.
“It’s easier to rig the elections when there’s human factor. For example, at the last Moscow City Duma elections YABLOKO received no votes at the polling station where YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin voted. When the bulletins were recounted it turned out they got into the Communist party’s pile. It will be impossible with the touchscreen voting machines,” said Mikhail Petrov.
According to Petrov, the touchscreen voting machines will help to cut the time when counting the bullitens.
