Press Release, 15.04.2026

On 22 April, the Yabloko Party University will host a lecture by diplomat and translator Pavel Palazhchenko “Diplomacy of Perestroika: Lessons for Today’s World”. Pavel Palazhchenko is an eyewitness to the key events and negotiations of the Perestroika era. As an interpreter for USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev and Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze, he participated in high-level meetings, disarmament negotiations and sessions of the UN General Assembly.
What will be discussed in the lecture:
– “New Thinking”: how was the logic of international relations restructured during the era of Perestroika?
– Why did Mikhail Gorbachev promote the idea of an interconnected world, the renunciation of nuclear war, and the connection between politics and morality?
– How does trust emerge in international relations and how do real agreements grow from it?
– What lessons can be learned from the experience of Perestroika today, when trust between Russia and the West is again at an extremely low level?
The lecture will take place at the office of the Yabloko party at the address (Moscow, Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2) on April 22 starting at 19:00.
Admission at prior registration.
