On the morning of 7 June, friends and former colleagues of Larisa Yudina visited her grave at the Elista cemetery, went to the street named after Larisa, and gathered in the office of the Kalmykia regional branch of Yabloko to remember Larisa.
It happened 25 years ago. She was kidnapped, they tried to force her to refuse to be the editor of the opposition newspaper Sovetskaya Kalmykia, which boldly wrote about corruption in the upper echelons of power in Kalmykia, in particular then President of the Republic Kirsan Ilyumzhinov (who remains live and well in Moscow now). When Yudina refused to do this, they killed her and drowned her in a pond…
Larisa Yudina was one of the founders of the regional branch of Yabloko in Kalmykia in 1998. She revived Sovetskaya Kalmykia newspaper and made it oppositional. On 26 April, 1998, at the initiative of Larisa Yudina, the Elista branch of Yabloko was created.
