On 24 January, the Yabloko party held a charity auction in support of eight Russian political prisoners: 31 lots from Russian politicians, journalists and cultural figures were put up for auction. The total amount of the funds raised, including redeemed lots and voluntary donations, amounted to 624,000 roubles. Donations continue to come to the account of the organisers of the auction.
The auction was held simultaneously in two formats: bids were accepted from participants from the hall and viewers of the auction on the YouTube channel of Yabloko, who sent their bids for the lots in a specially created Telegram chat.
The donors of the lots made speeches for the participants: Yan Rachinsky, Chairman of the Board of the International Society Memorial – Nobel Peace Prize winner, Grigory Yavlinsky, founder of the Yabloko party, and journalist Pavel Lobkov.
Video greetings for bidders were sent by the owners of the lots, journalists Svetlana Sorokina and Viktor Shenderovich, film critic Zinaida Pronchenko, politicians Boris Vishnevsky and Lev Shlosberg, artists Lyubov Kondratieva, Yaroslava Shirogorova, Vadim Solodukhin, Ivan Savelin, Naja Yantsen, Daria Nemeretina and Kirill Kazakov, and political strategist Pavel Dubravsky .
In addition, letters from political prisoners Alexei Gorinov and Vladimir Kara-Murza were read out at the auction.
The total amount of the fund raised for the redeemed lots amounted to 569,000 roubles. However, the organisers managed to raise more money to help political prisoners: the audience of the auction continues to send donations for political prisoners to the organisers of the event. At the moment, there are 624,000 roubles in the account.
All the money raised will be divided equally and sent to the relatives of eight political prisoners: Mikhail Afanasyev, Alexandra Skochilenko, Alexei Gorinov, Artyom Kamardin, Yegor Shtovba, Nikolai Daineko, Sergei Komandirov, and Mikhail Krieger.
Yabloko thanks everyone who took part in the auction. In such difficult times for our country, it is important to support each other and help those who have suffered from state repression.
