The project of a multifunctional medical centre for 1,250 beds with a maternity hospital in the Primorsky district of St.Petersburg was included in the special investment programme. As of the end of the year, a contract for cadastral works for construction was already signed. This information was given in the response of the administration of the Primorsky district to the inquiry of the Yabloko deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Boris Vishnevsky.
Land surveying work should be completed before the end of this year. Financing of the construction works is envisaged for 2023 and 2024.
“Primorsky district is the largest in terms of population, as well as a leader in housing construction. At the same time, there is still no public maternity hospital in it. The current standard, according to which a woman can reach a maternity hospital located in another area of the city in 60 minutes, is far from always possible in practice, given such factors as traffic jams and bridges. Therefore, the decision to create a medical centre that includes a maternity hospital is absolutely correct,” Oleg Maksakov, Chairman of the Primorsky district branch of Yabloko, says.
Over the past year, Yabloko activists and deputies have repeatedly lobbied for the idea of building a maternity hospital in this most densely populated area of the city, where there were no such medical institutions. Earlier, the city Governor had called the idea “unreasonable”, and Vice Governor Nikolai Linchenko said that there were two medical centers in the district that could provide such medical services: the Mother and Child Clinical Centre and the National Medical Research Centre.
However, not everyone has access to services at both institutions. Only the presence of compulsory medical insurance and a quota for special indications makes it possible to use the services of the maternity hospital at the National Medical Research Centre, and the clinic Mother and Child is completely private.
But in September 2022, the district administration announced that they planned to build a medical centre with 1,250 beds. The facility will also have a children’s hospital and a maternity hospital.
The Primorsky regional branch of Yabloko has been seeking the construction of a maternity hospital in the this most densely populated area of St. Petersburg for more than a year. The creation of a medical centre was one of the key points of the electoral programme of Oleg Maksakov, Chairman of the local branch of Yabloko, at the election of deputies of the Legislative Assembly.
