Svetlana Gannushkina became a laureate of the Anna Politkovskaya International Prize

Svetlana Gannushkina, a human rights defender and a member of the Yabloko Federal Political Committee, has become a winner of the Anna Politkovskaya Prize awarded by the international organisation Reach All Women in WAR (RAW in WAR).
The prize is awarded to women defenders of human rights in wars and conflicts. Together with the Gannushkina, the Prize was awarded to Tatyana Sokolova, a midwife from Mariupol, Ukraine.
As the Svetlana Aleksievich, a writer and a Nobel Prize Winner in Literature, said at the awards ceremony, Svetlana Gannushkina and Tatyana Sokolova are courageous and fearless women who sided with good and light, have become an example.
“And by honoring them, we are honoring everyone who defends life today,” Aleksievich noted.
Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, congratulated Svetlana Gannushkina on wining the honorary prize:
“Svetlana Alekseyevna Gannushkina is an absolutely outstanding person. She is one of the absolutely real, meaningful contenders for the Nobel Peace Prize (the next day, the Nobel Committee awarded this prize to the human rights organization Memorial, of which Gannushkina has been a member since 1993 – Ed.). How much Gannushkina did for specific people, how many people did she save, what patience she has, how she knows how to organise everything – this is absolutely unrivalled. The purpose of her life is to help people in need. Since Svetlana Alekseevna is a sincere, honest, intelligent, and serious person, she, among other things, is a member of the Yabloko Federal Political Committee.”
Svetlana Gannushkina heads the Civic Assistance Committee, which helps refugees and migrants. Tatyana Sokolova worked in the maternity hospital of Mariupol, Ukraine, during the worst days of this year, she helped 27 children to be born.
