The Oktyabrsky Court of Belgorod acquitted Ilya Kostyukov, an activist of the Yabloko party, who was accused by police of participating in an unpermitted mass public rally.
Ilya Kostyukov told the judge during the court hearings that he went on a picket against the destruction of the trolleybus network in Belgorod, as he is a member of Yabloko, and one of the party’s agendas is environmental protection. Ilya Kostyukov recalled that the authorities of Belgorod decided to remove trolleybuses from the streets of the regional centre from 1 July, and so he went on a single picket for the second time, as such pickets in Russia do not require any coordination with the authorities, however, the police accused him of participating in a mass rally based on a photo with a passerby.
Earlier, Ilya Kostyukov reported of being under pressure at his the educational institution.
