The Kemerovo branch of Yabloko held single pickets on the eve of the Constitution Day
Press Release, 14.12.2020
On 11 December, on the eve of the Russian Constitution Day, activists of the Kemerovo branch of Yabloko held single pickets.
“All the amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation are unlawful and completely disavow the meaning of both the key Chapters 1 and 2 [on human rights], and its entire content as a whole. The “presidential” Constitution completely belongs not to the Russian people, but to the Moscow Kremlin and its residents,” Vitaly Ilyin, Chairman of the regional branch of the party, said.
“In particular, Vladimir Putin, having illegally run for the third and the fourth presidential terms, introduced amendments to allow him to be elected after 2024. In fact, the Russian Constitution has become a pocketbook serving the interests of a narrow circle of the elite and the oligarchy,” the leader of the Kemerovo branch of Yabloko added.
It should be noted that the current Constitution was adopted on December 12, 1993 by popular vote. The 12 December was declared a public holiday by the decree of President Boris Yeltsin and was a day off until 2005.
