The head of Yabloko took part in an environmental campaign and met with the activists of the regional party branch

The action Red Card for Environmental Violations was organised in front of the government building of the Chelyabinsk region on the day of the visit of the head of Yabloko to Chelyabinsk, August 10. Its goal was to draw the Governor’s attention to the unfavorable environmental situation in the region. Chelyabinsk is one of the Russian cities with the highest level of emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere; it was included in the presidential May Decrees with the instruction to reduce emissions by 20 per cent by 2024.

“Exceeding the norms for harmful substances in the air is not only a temporary inconvenience leading to the need to close windows in the +30 C heat, but an increase in the number of cancer patients and people with respiratory diseases,” Nikolai Rybakov said during the action.

In the afternoon, the head of Yabloko met with the candidates who were included in the party list for the elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region. The regional Electoral Commission removed Yabloko from the elections due to alleged violations in the subscription lists submitted by the party for registration. The Central Electoral Commission confirmed the decision of the regional Electoral Commission past week.

“We have worked out a plan to fight for registration and will do everything we can for the party to take part in the elections to the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk region. Now we will go to court. And we will also present the citizens who were called “non-existent” and “invented” people first by the regional commission, and then by the Central Electoral Commission [when they were verifying voters’ signatures in the subscription lists required for registration of candidates in the race]. It is not for the first time,” Yabloko Chairman noted.

During the visit, Nikolai Rybakov also gave interviews to local media – Komsomolskaya Pravda radio in Chelyabinsk and Channel 31.

Before the single voting day on September 13, Nikolai Rybakov intends to visit the regions where the party takes part in the elections. On August 13, the party Chairman will work in the Kostroma region. Here Yabloko put forward its candidates for the regional and city councils of Kostroma.
