The Oryol branch of Yabloko obtained a permission for a picket in memory of Boris Nemtsov
Press Release, 26.02.2020
A picket in memory of Boris Nemtsov will be held in Oryol on 29 February. This was announced by Sergei Zaitsev, the organiser of the action and Chairman of the Orlov branch of Yabloko. The commemorative action will begin at 11.00.
Initially, the picket was planned to be held in the Yermolov Garden. However, the authorities refused to give a permission for this site referring to the fact that the entire site would be allegedly occupied on that day by other events.
“It turns out that the whole Yermolov Garden, except for the places planted by spruces will be occupied with events for 1,400 people,” Zaitsev said.
Yabloko’s challenged the denial in court. But officials gave a permission on a second notice – that is, the action is allowed to be held across the street from the graden.
The Soviet District Court dismissed Zaitsev’s lawsuit against the authorities. The decision ran that, given that a permission for the action was finally given, albeit in a different place, and given the fact that the plaintiff did not refuse to hold the action there, his rights were restored. Consequently, there are no grounds for satisfying the claim.
Politician and statesman Boris Nemtsov was shot dead on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge near the Kremlin in Moscow on February 27, 2015. Yabloko places political responsibility for the murder on President Vladimir Putin. The Yabloko party annually takes part in the actions in memory of the murdered politician throughout the country. On the fifth anniversary of the murder of politician Boris Nemtsov, members and supporters of Yabloko will come out for commemorative actions in dozens of regions. Often, organisers of commemorative actions have to face pressure in the regions. This year, the authorities decided to fire the spouse of Yevgeny Artemyev, organiser of the Boris Nemtsov March in Kemerovo and member of the Regional Council of the Kemerovo branch of Yabloko, from her job in a children’s clinic.
