Grigory Yavlinsky on the Normandy Four summit

Briefly about the Normandy Four meeting: it is well, that it has taken place. Now, until December 31, an exchange of prisoners will be possible – “all for all”.
As for the rest… Vladimir Zelensky said that the principles on which he was building his policy were the three impossibilities:
– federalisation of Ukraine;
– the influence of other forces on its policies;
– compromises to resolve the conflict through the cession of the territory.
Zelensky also explained that he and “the President of Russia have a completely different view on the transfer of sections of the border”. Nevertheless, Putin admitted that he was “satisfied” with his first meeting with the Ukrainian President.
Following the summit, Putin, Zelensky, Merkel and Macron again agreed on “immediate stabilisation measures in Donbass,” “measures for political implementation of the Minsk agreements” and “ensuring the implementation of the agreements reached”. All this somehow repeats the results of previous meetings of the Normandy Four. “Four months later, we have the opportunity to continue the discussion,” the meeting participants said.
Meanwhile, since the start of hostilities in April 2014, about 13,000 people died in the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, dozens of thousands were injured, and the number of refugees exceeded 1.5 million.
To stop this war, it is necessary [for Russia], first of all, to abolish the doctrine of “limited sovereignty”, the policy of interfering in the affairs of other countries, as well as to develop a vector common for all the parties that would ensure movement to the future. As long as there is no such political will in the Kremlin, the tragedy in eastern Ukraine will go on.
