The party and the LGBT movement: a problem alliance. Lecture by Igor Kochetkov
Press Release, 31.01.2019
An interesting and important discussion is unfolding in Yabloko about attitudes in Russia towards discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity, human rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people, same-sex marriages, etc.
However, we can observe that mainly personal views on human sexuality, nature, history, and religion are confronted. But the political side of the issue is very rarely discussed. Should a liberal party support the demands of the LGBT movement? What is this movement? Where did it come from and where is it going? Why can’t a modern political party avoid the question on its attitude to it?
These questions will be covered in the lecture by Igor Kochetkov, one of the founders of the Russian LGBT Network and Yabloko member.
The discussion will be moderated by Galina Mikhaleva, Chair of Yabloko’s Gender Faction. The event will be held within the framework of the Gender School.
The lecture will be held on Wednesday, February 6, at 19:00.
Address: Pyatnitskaya, 31 building 2, fourth floor. Metro stations Tretyakovskaya or Novokuznetskaya.
There will be on-line broadcasting of the lecture for those who can not be present in the office.
