Sergei Mitrokhin calls State Duma Chair not to postpone consideration of animal welfare bill

Chair of the Moscow branch of Yabloko Sergei Mitrokhin has sent an appeal to State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin calling him not to postpone the consideration of the animal welfare bill.
According to the politician, the necessity to pass a law on animal welfare is ripe. The number of crimes against animals has increased dramatically.
On 7th November, Animal advocates Vera Stepanova and Yuri Koretsky began an indefinite hunger strike demanding to pass the law. Their health condition is becoming worse but they refuse to end the action of protest.
“We have learned that animal advocate from different cities of Russia are planning to join the hunger strike. We are worried about the state of their healt,” Mitrokhin says.
Sergei Mitrokhin calls Vaycheslav Volodin to place the bill on the agenda on 21 November. The politician claims that the bill must include the prohibition of delphinariums, mobile and petting zoos. He also argues that a broad sections of the public, including animal advocates, public and cultural professionals, should be allowed to join the discussion.
