Press Release, October 20, 2013
YABLOKO and the residents of the Fili-Davidkovo district, Moscow, conducted a rally against the infill construction. The construction of a seventeen-storied apartment block can do harm to the nearby apartment buildings.
The local resident Irina Beletskaya said that despite the potential danger all the echelons ignored the demands of the local residents to conduct the examination of the foundations of the nearby houses. What is more, the construction takes place at the territory of the “nightingale grove”, part of it had already been destroyed. Moscow Department of the Natural Resources Management gave the permission to cut down the trees. According to the activist, there are alternative territories in he district where the construction could have taken place.
YABLOKO member, scientist at the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Medovar explained that the construction at that place could lead to the overwetting of the soil and cracks may appear in the foundations of the nearby houses.
YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin believes that peaceful protests can yield the result and the construction can be stopped. “We need to carry on our struggle. The trees have been cut, but we can plant the new ones. The main thing now is not to allow to build that terrible skyscraper in your court”, he said. Mitrokhin called the residents not to believe in the words of the Deputy Moscow Mayor for Urban Development and Construction, who said it would be council housing. “Such constructions never refer to the council housing. The building will be given to investors who will share the profit with all the power vertical”, concluded Sergei Mitrokhin.
