Moscow Yabloko Youth holds picketing in support of Kirill Bobro
Press release, 28.02.2017
Moscow Yabloko Youth deputy Chair Maria Efimova and regional council member Victor Petrunin have held picketing in support of arrested leader of Stavropol Yabloko Youth Kirill Bobro outside the FSB security service headquarters in Moscow today. Kirill was sentenced to three days in jail for organising a one-person picket against the persecution of opposition in Stavropol, south Russia.
“I think that arresting a person for holding a one-person picket in unacceptable. It is high time the law enforcement dealt with real threats, not [persecuted] civil activists. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for young people to stand for freedom and peace due to the constant pressure. It is a serious problem that people are being constantly intimidated, we have to do something about that. The best way is to be brave,” Petrunin noted.
YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova forwarded a request to the FSB Chief Alexander Bortnikov demanding to bring the department officers to responsibility for putting pressure on the party activists in Stavropol. YABLOKO claims that such actions are unlawful and unacceptable, they put obstacles in the way of freedom of expression of people and violate one of the basic constitutional rights of the citizens – the right to freedom of assembly, runs Emilia Slabunova’s request.
