Emilia Slabunova on the arrest of Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukayev

The new “show” on the political scene is the arrest of [Minister] Alexei Ulyukayev.
The fact that Ministers are wiretapped by the Federal Security Service is well-known to the Ministers and all citizens. And they are not so stupid to demand a bribe over the phone. This is the first thing.
Second, extorting a bribe from Putin’s friend using threats – who would believe it?! Third, the question arises, why such a need emerged. They could simply remove the Minister, without fuss. Why did they need an arrest?! Either it was a demonstrative action for greater intimidation of the government in the situation of formation of the budget in a failed economy with growing military spending, or privatisation of Rosneft was about to develop according to a “wrong” scenario. Further developments will show. The situation once again confirms the thesis of our Party, that corruption and “fight” against corruption represent the two pillars the current government in the country rest upon.
But in general, all this resembles a “ministerial merry-go-round” that had place 100 years ago. It is important to prevent the events that followed it [in 1917].
