YABLOKO Chair Emilia Slabunova filed a request with head of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Chair of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin and Prosecutor General Yuri Chayaka demanding to report about the criminal case against entrepreneur Dmitry Nekrasov, the investigative actions against him and the reasons why he was detained at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport.

On May 24, Nekrasov was detained by Russia’s Federal Security Services at Vnukovo airport and questioned about his links to terrorist organizations. According to the siloviki [a word that refers to “strongmen” officials with roots in law enforcement], the “talk” had an informal character. However, the next day Nekrasov learned that the court might impose the pre-trail restrictions on him in the near future, therefore he decided to leave he country and remain abroad until the circumstances are clarified.

Slabunova claims that the actions against Nekrasov “are politically motivated and can be interpreted as nothing but pressure on YABLOKO and the candidate whom the party is planning to nominate at the elections”.

The statement stresses that Dmitry Nekrasov is a prominent representative of the expert society and a political figure who is regularly published in mass media, therefore the “statements about his links to terrorist organizations seem frankly manufactured and politically determined”. YABLOKO claims that [the siloviki] are trying to force Nekrasov to give up the participation in the elections.

In March Dmitry Nekrasov turned to YABLOKO with the request to nominate him in the 197 electoral district in Moscow and signed the Memorandum of Political Alternative. The parliamentary candidates will be nominated at the party congress which will take place in the second half of June, 2016.
