Tula YABLOKO Youth protested against conscription

YABLOKO Youth activists in Tula joined the federal action of protest conducted by the youth faction of YABLOKO against the conscription system in Russia. The action was timed to the beginning of the spring draft.
The activists conducted one-person pickets outside the military registration and enlistment office and by the monument to Lev Tolstoy. The writer was known for his pacifist stance.
YABLOKO Youth’s actions in support of a contract-based army also took place in Novosibirsk (the Novosibirsk Region), Vladikavkaz (North Ossetia), Stavropol (the Stavropol Territory), Yeysk (the Krasnodar Territory), Moscow and Yekaterinburg (the Sverdlovsk Region).
Conscription in Russia is a 12-month draft, mandatory for all male citizens age 18–27, with a number of exceptions.
