Press release, 14.12.2015
Secretary of YABLOKO Political Committee, Prof. Galina Mikhaleva spoke about the threats of religious extremism and problems of security at the 12th international conference “Fundamental Rights in Europe endangered – Liberal Answers” which was held in Stuttgart on December 12.
She stressed that the radical Islamic organisations which have created networks and are sending people to fight in the war in Syria are not the only one who represent a threat, but orthodox extremism, supported by the Russian Orthodox Church, is also dangerous.
Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, MEP and former German Minister of Justice, Angelika Mlinar, MEP,
Michael Treurer and Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, Maria Panjikidze, former Foreign Affairs Minister of Georgia and other well known politicians particpated in the event.
The participants discussed the joint tasks which the liberals face after the war in Syria: migration flows, rise of popularity of populists and right-wing parties, the necessity to fight the Islamic extremism. Summing up, the politicians came up to the conclusion that liberals around the world must coordinate their activity and activate their work with the citizens promoting basic human rights observance.
