Yabloko Party Chairman Nikolai Rybakov sent a letter to the Ethics Commission of the State Duma demanding them to give a public assessment of the actions of the deputy from the Kurgan region who insulted women. Rybakov noted in his address that such a disdainful attitude towards women, citizens of the Russian Federation, not only violates the requirements for the behaviour of State Duma deputies, but also incites hatred in society and humiliates human dignity.
On 18 November, 2024, deputy of the State Duma Alexander Iltyakov, said live on the air of KP radio that those who want to postpone having children, devoting part of their life to themselves, “will live in a coffin”, and addressed women: “Pray to God and rejoice while the womb does it work – give birth, wife!”
The segment of this broadcast was covered by many media outlets and caused widespread public outrage. Before this, Iltyakov made a similar statement about the work of the “birthing woman” in a conversation with journalists from the URA.RU news agency.
The Yabloko party leader called on the Ethics Commission of the State Duma to examine this case, publicly assess the deputy’s statement, establish the fact of violation of the rules of parliamentary ethics and suggest that Alexander Iltyakov make a public apology.
