Press Release, 12.09.2024
On 30 October, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of Political Repression, Yabloko in Moscow and the Russian regions will hold events designed to preservation of the memory of the terrible events of the Stalin period of our state and the victims of political tyranny. The Yabloko delegation in Moscow will visit the Butovo and Kommunarka execution sites. In addition to laying flowers, there will be a tour where participants will be told about the burial sites. We invite all to join our trip.
Butovo became the site of execution of more than 20,000 people in the 1930-1950s. The list of 20,761 people shot in August 1937 – October 1938 (the time of most of the executions) is known by name.
The Kommunarka execution site was an NKVD (Joseph Stalin’s secret police) facility where, during the repressions of the 1930-1940s, people “scheduled for repression under the first category” were shot and buried in top secrecy. According to various estimates, up to 11.400 people were buried there.
Yabloko invites all to join a memorial trip to the mass graves of the repressed. The bus departs from the party office in Moscow (Pyatnitskaya 31, bldg. 2) on 30 October at 11:00. To participate in the trip, you must leave a request (https://www.yabloko.ru/form/zayavka-na-uchastie-v-poezdke )
