On the day of memory of the Russian scientist, statesman, political and military figure Alexander Kolchak, a public lecture “Admiral Kolchak as a Russian George Washington. Assessment of the image of the Supreme Ruler in Russia and abroad (1918-1920)” was held in the Omsk regional branch of the Yabloko party. The lecturer was Vladimir Kalekin, Master of History, Associate Professor, and Candidate of Sciences.
What is the concept of political culture of Alexander Kolchak? What factors determined the “historical nihilism” towards the Admiral during the Soviet period? What did the winds of democratic change bring to the assessment of the image of the Supreme Ruler? Vladimir Kalekin touched upon these and other questions in his lecture.
The lecture was prepared as part of a dissertation based on the analysis of materials from periodicals, office documents of cultural and educational public organisations, archival documents from the funds of the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the archives of the Hoover Institution of War, Revolution and Peace at Stanford University (Stanford, California, USA), Historical Archive of the Omsk Region and Omsk State Regional Scientific Library.
