On December 9-10, the Yabloko party will hold its 22nd Congress. Delegates of the Congress will elect the party’s executive bodies.
According to the Yabloko By-Laws, congresses at which the executive bodies of the party are elected should be held every four years. The previous congress was held in December 2019.
The Congress will elect the party Chairperson, Deputy Chairs, members of the Federal Bureau, the Federal Political Committee, the Control and Audit Commission and the Party Arbitration.
The post of party Chairman has been held by Nikolai Rybakov since 2019. In 2015-2019, the party was led by Emilia Slabunova, and by Sergei Mitrokhin in 2008-2015. From 2001, when Yabloko was transformed from an association into a political party, and until 2008, the Chairman of the party was Grigory Yavlinsky. According to the party By-Laws, the same person cannot lead the party for more than two terms.
According to the new version of the party By-Laws, candidates for the post of Yabloko Chairperson are submitted to the congress by the Federal Political Committee basing on the results of a preliminary all-party vote.
This year the all-party voting takes place in the form of a nomination – a collection of proposals for candidates for the post from Yabloko members. Each party member received a proposal sheet from the Federal Political Committee, where he/she should enter only one candidate for the post of party Chairman. Proposals will be collected until 19 November. The Counting Commission will take into account all proposals received and submit them to the Federal Political Committee for consideration.
