Yabloko turns 30!
Nikolai Rybakov’s Telegram post, 16.10.2023
30 years ago, on 16 October, 1993, a protocol on the establishment of an electoral bloc for elections to the State Duma was signed, the top three candidates included Grigory Yavlinsky, Yury Boldyrev and Vladimir Lukin. People immediately named the political association “YABLoko” [according to the first letters of the names of the top three candidates of the bloc, also “yabloko” means “apple” in Russian].
The founders of the bloc were the Christian Democratic Union, the Republican Party and Social Democratic Party.
The bloc, then a public association, and, finally, a political party, was represented in the Russian parliament three times. A total of 12 times (eight in parliamentary elections and four in presidential elections) Yabloko offered Russian society an alternative – political, economic, moral, and personal.
All these years we have changed, but our values and the principle laid down in the Declaration on the Creation of the Yabloko Bloc have remained unchanged – we are against a policy when the end justifies the means.
We continue working in Russia. Together with you!
