Condolences of Yabloko party leaders on the death of Viktor Sheinis, 25.06.2023

On 25 June, one of the founders of the Yabloko party, an outstanding academic and statesman Viktor Leonidovich Sheinis, passed away. Yabloko party leaders expressed their condolences on his death.

Viktor Leonidovich Sheinis was the initiator and a founder of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko. His time-tested democratic stance in life was a measure and a guideline for honest politicians, for all people of democratic convictions in our country.

Viktor Sheinis never changed his convictions: neither in his youth, when he gave an precise assessment of the events in Hungary [the Soviet invasion in 1956], for which he was expelled from the Komsomol and postgraduate course in the university, nor later, when his actual activities became fundamentally important for the new Russia. He was one of the authors of the 1993 Constitution. Viktor Sheinis was certain that it would become the legislative basis for the new progressive Russia. It was not his fault that it did not happen.

Until his last days, Viktor Leonidovich Sheinis watched with pain what was happening between Russia and Ukraine, because he was born in Kyiv.

Everyone who knew Viktor Sheinis will never forget him. His academic and political heritage is great, he was and will forever remain a political philosopher and chronicler of Russian democracy. The works of Viktor Sheinis are an invaluable contribution to the political history of Russia.
