On 3 March, the Yabloko Party University will host a lecture “Global constitutionalism: integration or fragmentation as a way to construct a new world legal order?”. The lecturer is Andrei Medushevsky, Professor of the Research University of the Higher School of Economics and a member of the Public Constitutional Council. The lecture will begin at 18:00 (Moscow time).
The lecture focuses on the theory and practice of global constitutionalism, the dominant liberal paradigm for creating a unified post-Westphalian world order. Today, global constitutionalism is opposed by a powerful trend towards the division of the world into separate legal regions, which questions the legitimacy of the system of international law and the classical values of constitutionalism. The lecturer analyses competing strategies for rebuilding the world order, including the position of the so-called revisionist states led by Russia, and reveals the change in the content of key political concepts – the social contract, sovereignty, parliamentarism, and human rights. Where will it led to – a world constitution or a supranational authoritarian state acting as a new Leviathan?
The lecture will be held at the central office of the Yabloko party at the address: Moscow, Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2. The lecture starts at 18:00 (Moscow time). Please register to participate.
Andrei Medushevsky’s lecture will be also streamed on the Yabloko’s YouTube channel. The link will be provided later on.
