On 19 September, a meeting of the activists of the Gender faction of the Yabloko party was held. The meeting was dedicated to the tasks of the faction in the new conditions, when the issues of the “special military operation” pushed the issues of gender equality that had been actively discussed before into the background.
The activists of the faction noted that simultaneously with the tragic foreign policy events in Russia, an attack on the rights of the LGBT community was underway: two bills were submitted to the State Duma aiming to ban the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations”. Also some media reported that the law on domestic violence was blocked by Vladimir Putin at the request of the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill.
The participants in the discussion agreed that it would be necessary to intensify the work of the faction, including holding round tables and preparing publications. It is also important to increase the size of the faction involving Yabloko candidates in the elections into the faction work.
The Gender Faction also considers it necessary to adopt a statement in connection with bills targeted against the LGBT community.
