On 17 March, the police searched the homes of a number of civil activists and journalists in Kazan, including Ruslan Zinatullin, Chairman of Yabloko in Tatarstan, party activists Yelena Izotova and Gulnaz Ravilova.
All three Yabloko members are witnesses in the criminal case of “inciting riots” because of the post in the Telegram messenger.
On 14 March, the Investigation Committee in Tatarstan opened a criminal case under Article 212.1 Part 1.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – incitement, recruitment or other involvement of a person in mass riots. According to the investigation, “an unidentified person being on the territory of Kazan, in the Telegram messenger in an open chat <…>, when discussing the upcoming unapproved action “No to War” in Kazan, published a message on 3 March, 2022, in which this person offered to “buy megaphones”, a mixture (banned for circulation) and clubs, which represented “calls for armed resistance against representatives of the authorities”.
Yabloko members have nothing to do with the calls to break the law.
