Yevgeny Vitishko to participate in a rally against oil extraction in the Black Sea
On 3 September, a rally under the slogan “Say NO to oil extration in the Black Sea!” in take place in Sochi. The place and time of the rally have been agreed with the city authorities. Yevgeny Vitishko, environmentalist and Chairman of Krasnodar YABLOKO, will take part in the rally.
Rosneft plans to drill two holes in 63 km from the coast. The company will assess the commercial prospects of large-scale deep-sea drilling at the South Black Sea license area with the help of these holes.
Earlier, the North Caucasus Environmental Watch reported that there was no public discussion on the drilling exploration project at the license area of the West-Black Sea area, but the company-contractor somehow managed to get a positive conclusion on the implementation of woks.
“The project has colossal environmental risks and puts an end to the Krasnodar Territory as the main tourist seaside resort of the country. Let us only recall the accident that occurred in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico – it was a global catastrophe. There are big doubts whether Rosneft is able to cope with such accidents at all, has it the means to do it? Now it is necessary to conduct public awareness campaign on the possible consequences of the project for the residents of the Region,” Yevgeny Vitisko said.
The rally will begin at 14:00.
