Yabloko’s Gender Faction reported on its work and elected its leaders

On 2 March, Yabloko’s Gender Faction conducted its conference. The faction reported on its work and elected its leaders. The conference was attended by delegates from 15 Russian regions.
Galina Mikhaleva, Chair of the Gender Faction, reported on the faction work since 2015, specially highlighting several fields of work: development of programmes for women that were alternative to government’s programmes, joint projects with partner women’s associations to combat violence against women, participation in conferences, roundtables (including international conferences), street actions and protection of the LGBT rights.
Yabloko Chair Emilia Slabunova stressed the importance of work in the field of gender equality stressing that only Yabloko out of the total of 72 registered Russian parties had been systematically engaging in combatting for gender equality. A new leaders of the faction were elected: the Council, in which six regions are represented, and two Deputy Chairs: Olga Radayeva, the First Deputy Chair, and Nikolai Kavkazsky, Deputy Chair. Galina Mikhaleva was re-elected the faction Chairperson.
The conference adopted new regulations of the faction, and changed the title of the faction from the Gender (Women) Faction to the Gender Faction, specified on the goals and task of the faction, as well as the forms of participation of the members of the faction in the Council meetings.
The participants of the conference stressed during the discussion the need to increase the activity of the faction in the Russian regions.
